apple television set

In an upcoming interview with NBC’s Brian Williams, Apple CEO Tim Cook talks about the Maps debacle, the company’s move toward US manufacturing, and bringing television out of the past and into the future. Scheduled to air tonight on Rock Center at 9:00 p.m. CST, Cook’s casual hint all but confirms our suspicions that an Apple-built television set is in the works.

At the end of a very revealing interview, Cook was asked, “What’s next for Apple?” His answer:

“When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years Cook told Williams. “It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.”

It has been widely rumored for well over a year now that Apple has a television set in the works. There has never been any official information, but component makers have been claiming that production has already started for months now.

This is the first time that any Apple-related personnel has even hinted at the possibility of a TV set. Cook’s statement is practically a bombshell considering how clearly he is pointing toward television and Apple’s future with it. Maybe the company is working on making the box top set, Apple TV, more than a hobby, but it is more likely that all the rumors about an “iTV” will prove to be true in the upcoming year.
