Apple Milestone: One Million iOS Apps Have Been Approved for App Store

According to App Store discovery company Appsfire, as of today, there have been more than one million iOS apps submitted to the App Store since July of 2008, which is an impressive number for just four years of activity.

Ouriel Ohayon, co-founder of Appsfire, revealed additional details about those apps.

Of the submissions since 2008, a total of 493,289 were paid apps, while the others were available to download for free. 158,848 were games.

Today, there are only 736,247 apps live in the App Store, and out of that total, 336,270 (45 percent) are paid, while 120,065 (16 percent) are games. It’s unlikely that Apple will share this news, because the Cupertino-based company tends to focus just on apps that are currently available.

Apple’s last update, at the iPad mini launch, targeted the App Store at more than 700,000 live apps, but the company has not provided an updated figure since that date.

It is incredible that a service we did not even have five years ago is used by so many people on a daily basis. During the iPhone 5 launch, Tim Cook told audiences that the average customer uses more than 100 apps. At this point, it’s hard to remember what life was like before we had apps, games, and information right at our fingertips. Thanks, Apple.
